A routine traffic stop by McClain County Sheriff Deputy Shane McCraw early last week turned out to be big bust of illegal oxycodone pills.
The white Jeep was pulled over for a traffic violation but during the stop McCraw’s drug dog, Spike, sniffed out the illegal and deadly fentanyl pills.
When the dust had settled June 13 at mile marker 95, Spike helped take 20,000 of the counterfeit pills out of commission.
The female driver of the Jeep, whose name is being withheld until the investigation is completed, was arrested and charged with federal drug-related offenses in the Western District of Oklahoma.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
“We are dedicated to all efforts to keep the citizens safe from the dangers of fentanyl,” Sheriff Landy Offolter said.
The sheriff’s department said the estimated street value of the pills is $100,000.
