William Melvin Harp

William Melvin Harp died October 20, 2022, at his home in Wanette, Okla., at the age of 92 years 16 days. Melvin’s life was celebrated quietly at his home amongst his close loved ones. Entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service. 

Melvin was born October 4, 1930, in Trousdale, Oklahoma, to William Virgil and Ruby Carlton (Elkins) Harp. Melvin was raised in the Trousdale area.

He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on February 10, 1953, proudly serving during the Korean Conflict.  Melvin was honorably discharged on February 9, 1956. During his enlistment, Melvin was awarded The Korean Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, and the National defense medal.

On June 16, 1956, Melvin married LaVada Jean Sanders in Purcell, Oklahoma.  They were married 39 years before LaVada passed in 1995.  In 1997, Melvin married Mary Lynnette Davis and have made Wanette their home for the last 25 years.

Melvin was employed by Homeland, where he worked in the warehouse and drove delivery until his retirement.  He was an avid hunter and marksman, and enjoyed gardening, baseball, western books and movies, as well as World War II and various historical memorabilia. Melvin also enjoyed dominoes and received many titles and trophies displaying his skill at the game.

His proudest achievement was reading the Bible cover to cover more then 20 times. He had a deep relationship with his savior, Jesus Christ, and shared with everyone the change God had made in him. Before his passing, Melvin shared with his loved ones his love for the Lord, and his anticipation to be home with Him. He lovingly joked with his wife, that he would be the one to see her brother first. 

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruby Harp; his beloved late wife, LaVada Sanders Harp; his sons, Rodney Allen Harp and William Harp; his daughter, Angela Kay Pease; his sister, Martha Johnson; and his brothers, Larry Harp and Allen Harp.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Mary Lynnette Harp; his daughter, Cindy Davis; his son, Keith Harp; his daughter, Kelley Couch and a multitude of grandkids, great-grandkids, great-great-grandkids; and numerous other relatives and friends.
