The Wayne Bulldogs will play their final game of the season Friday when they host Konawa at 7 p.m.
Konawa (6-2) is coached by Jeff Tompkins and have already clinched the District title.
Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp said they are a talented football club.
“(Coach Tompkins) has done an extremely good job getting the program resurrected,” Sharp said. “Their quarterback runs the offense really well and their running backs get down hill when they run. They’re also really physical up front.”
The Tigers will show multiple defensive fronts and Sharp said the defensive backs can not only cover receivers, but also support to stop the run game.
“Hopefully we’ll lay it out on the line and play hard,” Sharp said. “We’ll be celebrating our four seniors that night. We’ll want to see them off and celebrate them.”
Sharp was talking about seniors Joel Rojas, Logan Simpson, Max McGlory and Ethan Click.
Ringling
Wayne was defeated 40-8 by Ringling last Friday.
“They came out fast and we couldn’t get anything going,” Sharp said. “They were coming off back-to-back losses and weren’t wanting to leave any doubt.”
Ringling scored four touchdowns to open the game and led 32-0 in the first quarter.
Wayne got on the board in the second quarter when Jeremiah Peterson scored from three yards out.
Eli Stottlemyre completed a pass to Ryli Taylor for the two-point conversion.
Ringling added one more score in that quarter as well.
“Not doing the little things are still hurting us,” Sharp said. “We need better blocking on the inside for our traps and power plays,” he said. “And then better blocking from receivers on our outside run plays.”
