The Wayne Lady Bulldogs were in Binger starting Thursday for a tournament.
They dropped their first game, a 49-43 loss to Union City. However, they picked up wins over Fletcher, 54-46, and Binger, 36-33, to win the Consolation.
Sophomore Taelyn Ringwald scored 61 points through three games.
The loss to Union City was a back and forth game, starting in the first quarter when Wayne outscored the Tigers 17-15.
In the second, Union City scored 10 to Wayne’s nine, as the Lady Bulldogs led 26-15 at the break.
Things tightened up in the third quarter as Union City outscored Wayne 15-4. Wayne came back in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped the game 49-43.
Ringwald led her team with 23 points. Audra Watts added 10.
In their second game, against Fletcher, Wayne started slow, down 27-21 at halftime.
But, it was a story of two halves as Wayne outscored Fletcher in both the third and fourth quarters to pull out the 54-46 win.
Watts was the leading scorer with 23 points. Ringwald was on her heels with 20.
That win set up a consolation game with host Binger.
Once again Wayne started slow, scoring just ten first half points. Binger led 16-10.
The third quarter was a defensive battle, as Wayne managed nine to Binger’s 14.
Down 11 points going into the fourth quarter, Wayne dug deep and outscored Binger 17-3 to pick up the Consolation win, 36-33.
Ringwald and Watts combined for 26 points while Madilyn Sharp added five.
Last Tuesday Wayne hosted Little Axe and picked up a 41-29 win.
Ringwald led the team with 22 while Sharp added 13.
The Lady Bulldogs are sitting at 6-3 and were scheduled to host Bray-Doyle on Tuesday.
Boys
The Wayne Bulldogs won their first game of the Binger tournament, 78-64 over Mountain View-Gotebo.
But, they dropped their second and third games, a 68-38 loss to Binger and a 58-47 loss to Hinton.
Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs dropped a game to Little Axe in overtime, 73-69.
The Bulldogs were to host Bray-Doyle on Tuesday then were off until January.
They will host Lexington on Tuesday, January 7.
