Monday night Wayne picked up their third win of the season, a 13-10 victory over Riverside.

Led by Moreno’s five ribbies on three hits, the Lady Bulldogs’ offense was hitting on all cylinders after a few scoreless innings.

Riverside got on the board first, scoring three runs in the first and two runs in the second.

Finally, Wayne pushed their first run across home in the top of the fourth inning.

“We struggled at the beginning of the game to get our bats going. We weren’t striking out, but just hitting it right at the defense,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.

Wayne added three more in the fifth and blew the game open with five runs in the sixth., making the score 9-5.

Riverside had a late surge, scoring five runs through the sixth and seventh innings, but the Lady Bulldogs held on for the win.

Wayne racked up 24 hits in the win, led by Ava Stottlemyre’s five. Cylie Jones and Lily Whitaker had four apiece while Taelyn Ringwald, Addison Clagg and Moreno had three.

Stottlemyre got the win in the circle. She went all seven innings allowing 10 runs on 16 hits and one strike out.

Last Friday Wayne split their games with Fletcher and Wynnewood – a 22-10 loss to Fletcher but a 13-12 win over Wynnewood that went into extra innings.

Fletcher

The Lady Wildcats jumped out in the top of the first inning scoring two runs. Wayne answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.

Maddie Moreno singled and Ava Stottlemyre singled to each score a run. Then, Moreno tagged up to score their third run in the inning.

Fletcher put up crooked numbers in the second and third innings.

Wayne answered with seven runs in the second. Stottlemyre doubled to score two, Addison Clagg singled to score one, Lily Whitaker singled to score one and Alana Digby singled to score three.

But, the Lady Bulldogs didn’t have the steam to answer again in the third as Fletcher held an 18-10 lead.

The Lady Wildcats added four more insurance runs in the fourth.

Eight errors plagued the Wayne Lady Bulldogs.

They finished the game with 12 hits. Moreno, Stottlemyre and Whitaker had multiple hits each.

Wynnewood

In a back-and-forth game with Wynnewood last Friday, the Lady Bulldogs were the victors, 13-12.

“This was a great game for us. The win showed the team what they are capable of; they realized they can do it and they have the perserverance,” Herrin said.

The Lady Savages put six runs on the board in the top of the fourth and another five in the top of the second.

The pressure was on as Wayne couldn’t push a run across in the bottom of the first.

But, Wayne’s bats woke up in the second inning as they scored five runs to cut into Wynnewood’s lead.

Alyssa Hobson drew a walk to score a run, Digby hit into a fielder’s choice to score a run, Audra Watts drew another walk to score a run and Moreno singled to score two.

The Lady Savages and Lady Bulldogs each added two more runs in the third.

Wynnewood was held scoreless in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and Wayne added two runs in two of the three innings to knot the score at 11-11 through five innings.

Both teams added one run in the sixth to be tied up once again, 12-12.

In the bottom of the ninth, still tied up 12-12, Moreno had a walk-off triple to score Watts for the winning run.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with 18 hits, led by Moreno’s five and five ribbies.

“Maddie (Moreno) and Ava (Stottlemyre) hit the ball really well for us and Addison (Clagg) and Audra (Watts) ran the bases really well.

“I moved Taelyn out to left field and she doesn’t play outfield much but she did great. And, moving her out there allowed me to move Alyssa to right center and she got a lot of the short balls. They were great in the outfield,” Herrin said.

Wayne was scheduled to host Madill on Tuesday and travel to Wewoka on Thursday.
