The Washington basketball teams made a clean sweep of the District tournament Saturday night at the Warrior Event Center.
The girls handily defeated Lexington 86-11 in the opening game.
Washington’s smothering defense made life miserable for the visiting Bulldogs.
Washington opened the scoring on a 25-point run, before closing out the half with a 40-0 lead.
The Warriors bench spelled the starters for a significant portion of the game.
“I was proud of us making the right plays and we played the right way on both ends of the floor,” head coach Kale Simon said. “We continued to create the habits we’re striving for in the game.”
Preslee Johnson led all scorers with 17 points.
Breanna Lindert joined her in double figures with 14 points.
Regionals
The Warriors will play the Silo Rebels to open the Regional tournament today (Thursday) in Washington at 6 p.m. Silo is 16-10 this season.
Simon said they are a well-coached team, led by Jake Jobe.
“They’ll do things in the game that will put them in the best position to win,” he said. “They will want to keep the game at a pace that favors them.”
Simon said they have multiple quality shooters and outside shooting is one of the strengths of the team.
“They will defend and take care of the ball,” Simon said.
Washington is 24-1 on the season.
Boys
The Washington boys defeated Lexington 75-34 in the nightcap.
The Warriors took control of the game early with a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. They extended the lead to 14 points by halftime.
Jack McKimmey led all scorers with 22 points.
Mason Adams also went into double figures with 12 points.
Dickson
Washington will host Dickson today (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. to open the Regional tournament.
Dickson is 14-10 and coached by Josh Eubank.
Washington’s record is now 20-5.
