Warriors shine in ‘Bama

Take runners-up at Gulf Coast Classic

The Washington Warrior baseball team went 5-1 in Gulf Shores Ala. over spring break and finished the Gulf Coast Classic as runners-up.

The defending Oklahoma Class 3A State champions  saw teams from Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi and Florida.

They won their first game against Quitman, Miss. 17-0.

Marlon Moore got the win on the mound. Moore only allowed one hit in his outing and was relieved by Jake Wells, who allowed no hits.

Nate Roberts had three RBIs.

Cam Bates and Dax McCaskill scored three runs each.

Washington defeated Brookwood, Ala. 14-1 in the next game.

Nate Roberts got the nod to start the game and lasted three innings before Kade Norman came on in relief.

Norman and Kane Springer had a pair of hits each, with Norman going yard in the fourth inning.

Sutton Moore and Case Taylor had two ribbies a piece.

The Warriors defeated a more familiar foe in Calera, 13-0 in their third game.

Tristin Babbitt struck out six batters in three innings before handing the ball over to Bates in the fourth inning.

Sutton Moore had a pair of RBIs.

University School of Jackson, Tenn. went down 5-3 in the next game.

Jonathen Montoya pitched five innings before Liam Keltner closed the game out.

Sutton Moore tripled and knocked in three of the five Warrior runs in the game.

Washington downed Gallatin, Tenn. 9-5 in the semifinals.

The Warriors went with an all-freshmen class on the mound.

Keltner got the start and struck out three batters in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Owen Andrews and Jax Mitchell closed out the game.

Wells homered and knocked in a pair of runs. McCaskill and Sutton Moore both doubled.

Washington lost in the finals to Tuscaloosa County, Ala. 10-0 in the finals.

Mayson Thomas, Wells and Jake Coles handled the pitching duties.

The Warriors are 8-1 this season.
