Four turnovers, not playing complimentary ball add up

Washington has had Jones’ number recently, but last Friday night at Chad Richison Stadium in Edmond, the Longhorns came out on top of a 20-14 contest.

Warriors Head Coach Brad Beller said the game was a mixed bag of not playing their best game of the season on both sides of the ball.

“Both sides of the ball didn’t click at the same time,” Beller said. “When the offense was making plays the defense was not. And when the defense made plays the offense couldn’t take advantage. We just did not play complimentary football.”

The Warriors did have their moments.

“Braedon Hutchinson and Kade Babcock both played pretty well at cornerback. We put them out on an island and they covered their receivers pretty well. Case Alexander played as well as he could on both sides of the ball.

Alexander, who was not at 100 percent, made 11 tackles.

“We struggled running the ball so we spread things out and I thought Creed Barrett did a good job of managing the game,” he said. “We had to do some things differently since we weren’t running so well.”

Beller praised the play of his receiver corps.

“Kade Babcock, Case Alexander and Jackson Mays all had big games through the air,” Beller noted.

“Penalties and turnovers really slowed down our offense,” the coach said.

Josiah Dickerson and Javen Hall scored the two Warrior touchdowns on runs of five and four yards.

Washington coughed up two fumbles and had a pair of passes picked off.

Beller was quick to point out the tremendous career his senior class has enjoyed.

“They finished with three State Championships and one State Runner-up and were 56-2 for their four years which is third all-time in Oklahoma High School history. The only other two classes ahead of this year’s seniors are the two senior classes ahead of them. This group is leaving a very strong legacy and keeping a strong foundation for future teams to build on,” Beller said.

Washington finished 12-2 this season.
