The Washington Warriors defeated Lexington 13-2 and 15-1 in the Super Regionals Wednesday to punch their ticket to the State tournament.

It’s the 27th straight trip to State for Washington, with a streak that dates back to 1999.

They will open the tournament today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. against Perry (28-13).

Super Regional

Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin was pleased with his team’s offensive output in the tournament.

“We swung the heck out of it,” he said. “Their arm (Lexington pitcher Briley Lacquement) is exceptionally good and we only had five strikeouts total in the tournament.”

The Warriors hit eight home runs in the tournament.

In the first game, Julie Hoehner hit two while going 2-2 with a walk and four RBIs.

Ava Salcedo’s lone hit of the day went yard and she had two RBIs.

Raelee Adkins and Kinzlee Pogue also had homers.

Emersyn Massey was 2-3 with a triple and she scored three times.

Freshman Payton Blackburn got the nod from Lampkin for the start and struck out six batters in four innings.

Ellie Musgrove closed out the final inning in the circle.

Washington committed no errors in the field.

“We played really good defense,” Lampkin said. “Ava and Kelby (Beller) both had diving catches in the outfield. Raelee Adkins did a really good job at first base.”

In the second game, it was Pogue showing off her power at the plate with two homers.

She was 3-4 with five RBIs.

Beller was 2-2 with an RBI and scored twice.

Massey was 4-4 with two double and an RBI. She scored three times.

Salcedo was 2-4 with a homer and a double. She had three ribbies and scored twice.

Ally Dennis started at pitcher and had two Ks and allowed one walk in three innings.

Blackburn played the final two innings and struck out three.

“The coaches put together a great game plan and the girls did great executing the game plan,” Lampkin said. “I’m proud of them all the way around.”

Lampkin said his team is ready to play in the State tournament.

“Hopefully we’ll keep it rolling,” he said.

Washington is 34-4 this season.
