Washington played a smothering defense and put together a proficient offense on their way to a 50-0 homecoming victory over Lexington at Reed Field last Thursday night.

That offense, led by quarterback Kinser Scott, scored four first quarter touchdowns to go with a 65 yard punt return by Jackson Mays and a nine yard fumble recovery for a score by nose guard Lane Taylor.

Josiah Dickerson, who the team in rushing with 75 yards on three carries. He scored the first Washington touchdowns on runs of 45 and 11 in the opening period.

Javen Hall, who had five carries for 32 yards, had the other first quarter touchdown on a two-yard run.

Scott, who was starting in place of injured quarterback Creed Barrett, opened the second quarter scoring on a 44 yard scamper. Gavin Foster also found pay dirt in the second stanza on a six yard jaunt.

Freshman Jet Stinnett closed out the scoring on a 34 yard dash in the fourth quarter.

As a team, the Warriors gained 239 yards on the ground on 23 attempts and Scott was 6/10 passing for 57 yards.

“Our offensive line blocked well and our offense was proficient,” head coach Brad Beller said. “Kinser Scott, who had two carries for 51 yards and a touchdown, did a great job of managing the game. He knew we were going to throw deep and made the right check downs and made plays all night.

“Our second group did a good job of moving the football,” the coach confirmed.

Beller said he rotated several players on defense so no one individual really stood out.

Case Alexander led the tackling chart with four stops, a figure matched by Jaaron Gordon.

“Our linebacker corps of Henry Mann, Blake Heiliger, Jaaron Gordon and Case Alexander played well on defense,” Beller continued. “And a guy who never gets any mention is our nose guard Lane Taylor. He had three tackles, one for a loss and returned a fumble nine yards for a touchdown.”

The tenacious Washington defense limited Lexington to 173 yards of total offense, 134 on the ground and 39 through the air.

Up next for the 7-1 No. 2 ranked Warriors is a road trip to visit the Crossings Christian Knights.

Kick off Friday night is set for 7 p.m. for the District 2A-1 match up.

The Knights will throw the book at you on offense running everything from a spread to a Pro-I formation, Beller said.

“The biggest thing they want to do is get their ball to their big wide receiver, who is getting attention from some small Division I schools. They want to get the ball in his hands.”

Crossings is very aggressive on defense bringing pressure and trying to get one-on-one blocking match ups.

“We have to be able to pick up  all the pressure and on defense win first down,” Beller said. “Their playbook really opens up quite a lot when they get ahead of the sticks so winning first down is imperative.”

Warrior notes:

Head coach Brad Beller nominated Kinser Scott as the Offensive Player of the Week. Scott was six of 10 passing for 57 yards and carried the football twice for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Beller nominated Kingston Stringer as the Offensive Lineman of the Week. Stringer graded out at 87 percent against Lexington.

Case Alexander got the nod as the Defensive Player of the Week with four tackles.

Beller nominated Lane Taylor as the Defensive Lineman of the Week. He had three tackles, one for a loss and returned a fumble nine yards for a touchdown.
