Voter turnout nauseating

The number of people who took the time to cast a vote in last week’s millage proposition probably make those who gave their lives for us to have the right to vote turn over in their graves.

Whether you were for the measure or against it, and the majority of those who bothered to vote were overwhelmingly against it, is not the point.

Voters in McClain, Cleveland, Garvin, Grady, Murray, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie and Stephens counties – all of which have high school students who attend MATC, were asked to cast a ballot.

Seems a simple enough task, but apathy reins.

Out of the eight-county area there were 72,281 eligible voters.

That’s correct 72,281.

A total of 5,545 actually cast ballots far, far less than 10 percent which would have been in the neighborhood of 8,673.

That type of voter apathy is more than appalling.

The percentage was just over seven (seven!) percent.

It’s an out-right disgrace.

Speaking of voting, how in the world does Donald Trump think you can hold an election without mail-in ballots?

If you’re serving in the military overseas you sure as heck can’t vote in-person.

Service personnel would be completely left out in the cold.

And they’re among those allowing us to vote.

I reached out to McClain County Election Board Secretary Karen Haley to see what take she has on the proposal.

“I’d rather not comment on speculation,” Haley said.

We’ll see how this plays out.

We all get tired of those robo calls that say, “Hello, your business has not been listed on Google bla, bla, bla.

We get them all the time and, in fact, got 14 last Thursday.

Sheesh!
