I got laughed at a couple of times trying to make a purchase this week for something we all used to get for free when we bought a pair of shoes.

Back in the day the shoe store owner would toss a shoehorn or two in with a new pair of shoes.

I never or hardly ever used such a device and over the years have thrown numerous shoehorns into the trash.

If you can recall many moons ago they were metal. Then they went to the more affordable plastic shoehorns.

And, for those of you old enough to remember them, they even came out with big and tall shoehorns.

Well the need has arisen for me to utilize such an apparatus but alas I had ditched all of the ones I’d acquired over the years.

First store I went to the clerk chuckled as she shook her head.

“No we don’t have any of those,” she said like I’d asked for a sore throat or a headache.

The next store clerk I went to said, “I’ve heard of those but haven’t seen one in a long time.”

Finally someone suggested I try Tractor Supply Co. since they sell shoes and boots.

The clerk there said that he hadn’t seen one of those in a long time but lets take a look anyway.

They did, in fact, have one in stock.

I scooped it up like a chocolate candy bar and quickly put it to good use.
