Benefit for Operation Christmas

Posted

A benefit open barrel race next month will collect toys for McClain County Operation Christmas and give riders a shot at cash prizes for running a speedy pattern.

All contestants will be required to donate a new, unwrapped toy along with their entry fee.

The barrel race will be inside the McClain County Expo Center.

The competition is tentatively set for December 10 or 11. An exact date will be announced later.

The benefit is hosted by Indian Territory Roundup Club in Purcell with a guaranteed $1,000 added money.

The payback will be 80-20. Eighty percent will be paid to the top barrel racers and the club will donate 20 percent to Operation Christmas.

Club spokesman Butch Biby said new clothing is also needed for older kids.

“The club is not making anything,” he stressed.

Sponsorships are still available. Sponsors to date are Zeck Ford, Windy Chevrolet and K.D. Arnold Trucking.

Any individual or business wanting to be a sponsor should call Biby at 405-317-1930.

Barrel racers will have the opportunity to make exhibition runs prior to the start of competition.

Exhibition runs will be an additional charge of $4 each or three for $10.

The competition will consist of one run.

Individuals and families in McClain County have until Monday to submit Operation Christmas applications to the Delta Community Action office at 122 W. Main in Purcell.

Monetary donations are especially needed to cover rising food costs for the holiday food baskets.

Those donations may be sent to McClain County Operation Christmas, P.O. Box 756, Purcell, 73080.

Toys, clothing, school supplies and food baskets will be ready for pick up in December.
