There were some good things about this winter storm.

1. We never lost electricity and 2. We needed the moisture.

Another good thing was the kids getting to play in the snow.

After that, not so much.

There is the shoveling. There are the vehicles getting stuck.

There is the snow getting into your shoes and making the bottom of your pants wet when you did the shoveling.

That’s not to mention digging your vehicles out if they are not under a carport or in a garage.

Then there is getting stuck, again.

Residents in very rural areas have much larger and steeper problems with respect to navigating roads until they can make a thoroughfare.

Then there is the freezing over after a bit of thawing. That ice that makes it dangerous on which to walk.

And that’s not to mention snow-packed roads for drivers to have to negotiate.

Then there is the closing of schools and delays in extracurricular events.

Then there is the loss of business for business owners.

For instance, we were open Monday but not a single customer crossed the threshold of our front door. Back either.

Many businesses were closed all together.

Mail delivery people may have it the roughest.

First responders don’t get a day off and firefighters especially have sub-freezing weather related issues.

The frozen precipitation and dangerous wind chills make the simple task of taking out the trash a major chore, especially for old foggies who have nebulous balance like me.

It’s been awhile since we’ve been inconvenienced like this. The hope here is it’s quite a long time before it happens again.
