Tax measure passes in county

In a dismal turnout Tuesday, McClain County voters said yes to making the 1/2 cent county sales tax permanent.

The proposition 1 measure passed 999-836.

Proposition 2 passed 1,002 to 848.

There are 30,000 registered voters in the county.

“The citizens of McClain County should be proud to have the foresight of keeping our county strong going forward,” District 2 County Commissioner Wilson Lyles said following the Tuesday election.

“They have shown their support for keeping services and resources that have been provided by the 1/2 cent sales tax for our future generations.

“Our longtime families and the families that may join us in the future and the citizens deserve the benefits of this tax to be used here in our county,” he concluded.
