A strong thunderstorm that moved through the Heart of Oklahoma around 6 p.m. last Wednesday, October 4, dumped a ton of water on the area.
Rain gauges in Purcell and the surrounding areas measured anywhere from 1.5” to 2.27”.
In town, in Purcell 2.2” was recorded.
The Oklahoma Mesonet reported Washington received 1.84” and Byars, 1.02”.
The mesonet reported 3.84” in Pauls Valley.
The deluge didn’t last very long but it rained so hard that inches fell in about 1/2 hour.
The rain brought Purcell’s year-to-date rainfall to 30.72” compared to 30.12” at Will Rogers World Airport.
Normal for this time of year is 30.06”.
