Without even a practice Purcell’s slow-pitch softball team won one and lost one in the McElyea and Owens Invitational at OBU.
The Dragons lost to NRC before turning around and defeating Elgin, 8-2.
“We started getting more comfortable at the plate,” head coach Sarah Jones said as she enters her eighth season as head coach.
Ella Resendiz went 4-4 on the day with two home runs.
“Kelly Anderson did a great job for us in the circle walking only one batter all day,” Jones said.
Lili Del Toro, Hannah Whitaker and Kailynn Helton all had two hits while Rosie Smith, Kyleigh Wells, Payci Constant and Mac McKay each had a hit.
“We have a ton of talent and a lot of depth,” Jones said. “It’s going to be a really fun season.”
The Dragons are expected back on the field Monday when they host Vanoss at 6:30 p.m. They are also scheduled to play Newcastle and Washington at NRC next Tuesday.
