In recognition of Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, World Autism Day on April 2 and Autism Advocacy Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol on April 3, Senator Kendal Sacchieri voiced her support for Oklahomans living with autism and the families who advocate on their behalf.

The Senator joined advocates in attendance at the Capitol during the annual Autism Advocacy Day program and acknowledged the occasion on the Senate floor.

“Autism affects thousands of families across Oklahoma, and we stand with every parent, child, educator, and advocate working tirelessly to ensure that individuals with autism are seen, heard, and supported,” Sacchieri said. “I have a cousin with autism, and I know it was all worth it for her mother to stay home, ensuring she gave her daughter the proper care and education she needed through her young life.

“But it wasn’t without sacrifice of her own—to be there for her daughter day in and day out to overcome the struggles she had with her autism from birth to now nine years old. I give a salute to all those who have autism impacting their families in some way, shape or form—and they are in it for the fight to overcome its effects,” she said.

Senator Sacchieri expressed gratitude to the organizers of Autism Advocacy Day for their continued work and emphasized the importance of community-led efforts to expand understanding, inclusion, and access to resources.

“Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month is a reminder that every person with autism brings unique strengths and deserves the opportunity to thrive,” Sacchieri concluded.
