Monday night Wayne hosted Elmore City in a 9-1 Lady Bulldog win.

Senior Lily Whitaker led the team with three hits and four RBIs. She singled in the second inning to score twoa runs and doubled in the third to score two more.

“Lily has come in the last few games and given us a spark. She’s getting hits when we have runners on base which makes a big difference. She got her chance and she’s running with it,” head coach Megan Moreno said.

Taelynn Ringwald and Addison Clagg had two hits apiece.

Elmore City took an early lead with one run in the top of the second inning. But, Wayne answered with two runs in the bottom half to take the lead.

They added five runs in the third when Maddie Moreno doubled to score one, Cylie Jones grounded out to score one, Ringwald drew a walk to score one and Whitaker’s double scored two.

Wayne added two more in the bottom of the fifth to seal their lopsided win.

Moreno was in the circle where she fanned eight batters and allowed one run on four hits.

Districts

District assignments were released on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Central High for games with the Lady Bronchos and the Wetumka Lady Chieftains.

“It’ll be tough. We’ve been beaten by Central earlier in the season (11-9 loss on August 28).

“We’re looking forward to playing them again and we’re hoping that with a full game we can take our momentum into a win.”

Last week the Wayne Lady Bulldogs picked up a 14-13 win over Rush Springs on Tuesday and a 11-0 win over Ninnekah on Thursday. They hosted Elmore City on Monday and were scheduled to host CCS on Tuesday.

Rush Springs

Tuesday’s back-and-forth game with Rush Springs saw nearly double digit lead changes. Wayne collected 16 hits to Rush Springs’ 12 and both teams committed four errors.

Ringwald led her team going 4-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Moreno was close behind with three hits.

Alyssa Hobson, Audra Watts and Cylie Jones had two hits apiece while Natalie Knobloch, Whitaker and Kimber Reaves had one hit each.

Rush Springs got on the board with one run in the top of the first inning. Wayne answered with two in the bottom when Cylie Jones had a sacrifice bunt and Ringwald doubled down the right field line, both scoring one run.

The Lady Redskins and Lady Bulldogs traded leads for the next four innings when Wayne put up a six spot in the bottom of the sixth. Three of those runs were thanks to a Knobloch inside the park home run.

But Rush Springs wouldn’t go away that easily. They matched Wayne with six runs in the top of the 7th and took a 13-12 lead.

Down to their final two outs, Watts hits a line drive triple to score two for the walk-off win.

Ninnekah

Earlier in the season, Wayne’s game with Ninnekah was called early due to weather. They played again to finish that game last Thursday and finished with 11-0 Wayne win.

The Lady Bulldogs collected five hits including two from Knobloch.

Hobson had three RBIs to lead her team.

The Lady Bulldogs had a 14-10 record as of press time.

“We’re playing well at the right time. We got those ugly losses out of the way and I think we are on a good tear.

“The girls have turned it around and are giving more effort. They are gelling and getting along and holding each other accountable,” Moreno said.
