A Celebration of Life for Rowena Scott-Johnson, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
Mrs. Scott-Johnson was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She left this world peacefully on December 3,2024.
She was born to Virgil and Cecile Webb on September 8, 1934.
She graduated from Southeast High School in 1952. After graduating from high school, she married Melvin Scott. Together, they were blessed with five children: Ricky, James, David, Marsha and Joe. She remarried later in life to Bill Johnson.
Rowena loved spending time raising her kids and working on her passion for photography. Taking pictures and developing her pictures in a small dark room that was set up in the garage.
Rowena worked at the OU Law Center for 20 plus years. She was a director for the OU Student Law.
In her later years, Rowena dedicated countless hours working with the Silver Haired Legislature advocating for the rights of the elderly. Her work with this group was a source of great pride and fueled her lifelong ambition to serve and support others. She was recognized many times with awards for her commitment to this work.
After retiring, Rowena embraced her adventurous spirit by traveling the country visiting different parts of the United States. She also found great joy in caring for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Teaching and nurturing them brought her great happiness, and she couldn’t get enough of this time with the kids.
She is survived by her children, James, David (wife Mara), Marsha (husband Dave) and Joe (wife Jenny). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jalaa Scott, Robert Scott, Rachael Scott, Nathaniel Scott, Mathew Scott and Jake Scott, Hannah Scott Marzean, Shyann Chilton, Randi Prater, Stephanie Wallis, Allison Scott Hillegeist and Aaron Scott, along with five great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
Rowena was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Cecile Webb; her sister, Linda; by her husband, Bill Johnson; and her son, Ricky.
Rowena will be remembered for her selflessness, love for her family, and her unwavering dedication to helping others which will continue to inspire all who knew her.
