The Lexington Bulldogs ran into Washington on Saturday in District play. They lost to the Warriors 75-34.
“We were down 12 at half but I think we played them tough in the first half,” said head coach Derek Clark.
Washington held a 40-26 halftime lead.
According to Clark, Mixon got into some foul trouble in the second half and that led to Washington pulling away.
“With our point guard in foul trouble, we started turning the ball over and they were hitting shots and blew it open,” Clark said.
Cash Dierking and Elijah Pearman led the Bulldogs with nine points each. Colt Mixon added six.
The Bulldogs will return to Washington on Thursday to face Silo in Regionals at 2:30 p.m.
“Silo is a historically good program. We’ll have to play our best to beat them,” Clark said.
The Rebels have a 13-13 record and have played a tough schedule, according to Clark.
“Silo likes to drive the ball so we’ll have to keep them out of the lane and force them to make jump shots.
“We’ll have to box out and keep them from getting second chance points,” Clark said.
Girls
Last Saturday the Lady ‘Dawgs ran into the buzzsaw that is the Washington Lady Warriors. Lexington fell 86-11.
“They are as good as advertised. We came out and tried but we were overmatched; the girls fought hard and that’s all I could ask for,” head coach Jacobi Couch said.
Dulce Rodriguez had five points while Lexie Torres and Hadley Wilkins had three apiece.
The Lady Bulldogs will be in Washington again on Thursday to face Dickson at 1 p.m.
“We played them early on and won, but we are both different teams at this point in the season,” Couch said.
“There’s an extra element of pressure for this game.
“We just have to go out there and do our thing, play our game. It’s win or go home.”
