The Wayne Bulldogs won one and lost one in District play at Cyril last week. They got an overtime, 62-60 win over Rush Springs but fell to host Cyril, 74-40.
They will travel to Stonewall today for Regionals with the Longhorns.
The Bulldogs started slow in their win over Rush Springs. The Redskins had a 28-21 halftime lead.
But, Wayne came out firing in the third quarter, outscoring Rush Springs 16-10, including three three-pointers.
Wayne scored 15 points in the final stanza, including hitting all six of their free throws. That tied it up and sent the game to overtime.
In the extra period, free throws were the difference as Wayne hit eight out of ten from the charity stripe.
Ty Kemp led his team with 22 points, including hitting 10 of 13 free throws.
Ben Fisher and Jaxon Dill joined him in double figures with 17 and 15, respectively. Brody Kemp added eight.
In their second game of Districts, Wayne ran into No. 11 Cyril. They lost 74-40.
Despite Ty Kemp’s 19 points, Wayne’s offense was stymied by the Pirates’ defense.
Dill and Brody Kemp added five points apiece and Langston McClendon added four.
The Bulldogs are expected to tip off at 2:30 p.m. against Stonewall today for Regionals.
Girls
The Lady Bulldogs picked up a win over Rush Springs in their first game of District play. They won 46-34 behind Taelyn Ringwald’s 18 points. Dakota Martin joined her in double figures with 16.
Wayne jumped out in front from the get-go and held a 26-11 halftime lead. Despite being outscored in the third quarter, Wayne kept their offense firing and coasted to the 12-point win.
In their second game, Wayne fell to the host Lady Pirates, 78-16.
The Lady Bulldogs are expected to play at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) in Stonewall.
