After knocking off Dibble early last week, Purcell softball team came up short against Newcastle ending last week with a season record of 8-15.
Dibble drew first blood pushing across a pair of runs in the top of the first.
But the Dragons bounced back in their half of the second on a Kami Rendon two run double. The sophomore’s sharp hit to left field knotted the score at 2-all.
Sophomore Kendra Anderson broke the tie with a two-run scoring single followed by a double by senior KK Vazquez that widened the gap to 5-2.
Junior Ava Sparks pocketed the victory in the circle for the Dragons scattering seven hits over the seven innings of work. She struck out five Demons and issued four walks.
Led by Vazquez and freshman Kyndall Williams, who had three hits each, the Dragons garnered 14 hits in the game.
Anderson and Sparks both plated a pair of RBIs while Rendon went 2-2 in the contest.
Newcastle posted a 12-2 run-rule victory on Purcell with Anderson taking the pitching loss.
Miaca Martinez and Sparks led the Dragon offense with a pair of hits each. Martinez and Raigen Mariott knocked in both of Purcell’s runs.
Purcell was scheduled to host Perkins Monday and finish out the regular season on the road at Washington Tuesday, at Bethel next Thursday and at Latta September 29.
