Some exciting news was unveiled at Monday night’s Purcell City Council meeting with respect to the city’s new bike trails at the city lake.

Adam Demorest, who is Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Board, presented Randy Colburn and Joel Farrow with Certificates of Appreciation for their efforts in constructing the bike trails. Scott McCown was also honored but he was unable to attend the meeting.

With the addition of the new trails, Dave Weaver of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association gave a presentation about their program and the possibility of Purcell hosting national events at the new trail.

He reported speaking with different schools about their participation in such an event.

Leagues fulfill NICA’s mission at the regional level, improving the lives of teens and positively impacting communities by providing a high-quality, safe and fun interscholastic mountain bike program based on the principles of strong body, strong mind, strong character, equity and inclusivity.

Leagues, of which Oklahoma is a member, also oversee the development, training and education of teams and coaches in their communities.

The Oklahoma Interscholastic Cycling League was founded in 2024 by League Co-Directors, Dave Weaver and Mitch Franklin.

Their inaugural season took place this year.
