It’s Playoff time in Washington.
The Warrior baseball team is hosting Comanche and Alva today (Thursday).
Head coach Brad Lucas likes his team’s mentality as they head into the playoffs.
“We’re in a really good spot right now,” he said. “Washington Warrior baseball is getting ready to come out.
Washington opens with Alva (15-15) at 1:30 p.m. and will turn around and play Comanche (12-14) at 4 p.m.
Lucas thinks his pitching staff could give them an edge as they navigate the playoffs.
“We have some dudes who can pitch it and are ready to go,” he said. “Spencer Barton and Owen Andrews are ready. But we are so deep pitching-wise that we’ll give ourselves a chance.”
Heritage Hall
Washington defeated Heritage Hall 18-10 on April 22.
“We played really well against Heritage Hall,” Lucas said. “We had 19 hits and 18 runs.”
Jonathen Montoya got the start and he was relieved by Barton and Liam Keltner.
“We pitched it really well in that game,” Lucas said. “Heritage Hall is a good club and can hit it.”
Offensively, Keltner was 4-5 with a triple, three RBIs and a walk.
Jackson Mays went 2-4 with a pair of doubles and four ribbies. He was walked once and scored three times.
Jackson Rico went 3-6 with a double and had a pair of RBIs.
Purcell
Washington beat Purcell 4-3 last Thursday.
“We didn’t hit as well,” Lucas confirmed. “They kept us a little off balance.”
Owen Andrews had a solid outing on the mound, striking out eight batters.
Washington scored first and put up three runs in the second inning.
Purcell scored two in the third and one in the fourth.
Washington sealed the deal and broke the tie in the fifth inning when Mays sacrificed flied to score Jack Brady.
Mayson Thomas was 1-3 at the plate and had had two ribbies.
Washington is 19-10.
