New park at Rotary Pavilion

From the Purcell Parks and Recreation Department John Blue, Director

Posted

After several years of attempted repairs, discussions, planning, a declined grant application, more planning, and fundraising, we are about to complete our new playground project at the Rotary Pavilion at Purcell Lake!

The playground will feature two structures for kids of different ages to play, with an 8-bay swing set close by. Each structure will have a large shade built in to help cool families while they play during the summer.

The entire site is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for people of all abilities. The playground will be a Playcore National Demonstration Site, featuring the seven principles of inclusive playground design. A QR Code on site will help us collect data on how often our playground is used and where those users are from!

Construction should start in the middle of March and should take roughly a month to construct. We are planning a grand opening with ribbon cuttingand food on Saturday, May 6.

I cannot thank everyone enough for the concerns, support, partnerships, and enthusiasm to help us get this project where it is. From the paved trails and restroom, to the surrounding lake and natural areas, the Rotary Pavilion and playground is going to be a fantastic place for our kids to learn and grow.
