A misdemeanor charge in McClain County District Court of negligent homicide accuses a driver in the death of a passenger when he rolled his pickup.

Owen R. Pospisil, 19, of Newcastle, is free after posting $50,000 bond.

According to an affidavit, the single vehicle wreck occurred December 17 on State Highway 59 near Interstate 35.

With Pospisil in the 2007 Dodge 2500 pickup were four passengers, including Lydia Bledsoe, 18.

The pickup was eastbound on SH 59 when it left the roadway to the right, rolled and came to rest on its top.

During the rollover, Bledsoe, who was the driver’s side passenger in the back, was ejected.

She died at the scene, according to the affidavit.

Accident investigators interviewed Pospisil at OU Medical Center. He admitted driving the pickup and said he was en route from Mid-America Technology Center to Newcastle High School.

A light rain was falling and the roadway was wet, according to the affidavit.

Pospisil told authorities he saw another pickup start to slide on leaving the MATC. When he tried to accelerate on leaving the lot, he lost control of his pickup.

Pospisil and three other passengers escaped serious injury.
