Main StreetScape still on schedule

Officials with Rudy Construction confirmed Tuesday morning the Main StreetScape project is on schedule.

Most of the concrete, pavers and asphalt work should be completed in the next two weeks – weather permitting – and the remainder of the project will be completed in four weeks.

As of today (Thursday) the project is on day 151 of a 178-day contract. Officials report the project is still on budget as well.

Rudy Construction will be on the hook for “liquidated damages” if the project is not complete by November 15. There is no stipulation for relief in the contract for weather, unless the Governor issues a disaster declaration.

Construction on the south side of Main Street has gone faster than the north side of the street due to fewer “complications”, according to project officials.

Pavers will be mostly finished by next week. The personalized, engraved bricks which were located at Santa Fe Plaza just north of the caboose will be reinstalled near their original spot, according to project officials.

The City is working with Mid-America Technology Center’s horticulture department to choose low maintenance plants to plant in the new flower beds along the sidewalks.

The beds will be irrigated and maintained by City of Purcell Street and Parks and Recreation staff.
