In their final game before Christmas break, the Lexington Lady Bulldogs hosted Varnum Tuesday night.

Late last week they were in Wynnewood for a tournament. They started off with a 53-44 win over Wynnewood.

Addison Lippel (24), Lexie Torres (17) and McClain Moore (10) were all in double figures for Lexington. Ava Rowe added two.

The score was knotted at 22-all at halftime and it was the third quarter that was the difference in the game. Lexington outscored Wynnewood 20-11.

Lippel had 14 in the third, including three threes.

“McClain really stepped up for us against Wynnewood in her first varsity start. She gave us good minutes,” said head coach Jacobi Couch.

In their second and third games, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Marietta (52-31) and Crossings (52-13).

“We ran into some good teams at the Wynnewood tournament. We are shorthanded and our legs got tired, but the girls played  hard and never gave up.

According to the coach, Crossings’ gameplan was to faceguard Lippel and keep her bottled up.

Torres stepped up and led the team with seven points.

“Lexie stepped up for us big this weekend. She had to do some of the scoring with Addison locked down.”

Last Tuesday, Lexington lost to Stratford 69-37.

“They’re young, but they are big and experienced. They have a girl in the post who can flat out play. We are undersized so we knew it would be a tough match up,” Couch said.

Lippel led the Lady ‘Dawgs with 15 points. Jayda Idlett and Moore had six apiece.

“We cut Stratford’s lead to 15 in the third, but could never get over the hump.”

The Lady Bulldogs are 3-3 before their game with Varnum.

They are off until Monday, January 6 when they host Asher.

The Bulldogs were in Wynnewood over the weekend. They picked up a win over Marietta, 56-48, in the first game of the tournament.

However, they dropped their next two games, a 64-44 loss to Bridge Creek and 74-61 loss to Wynnewood.

Cash Dierking was the leading scorer over the weekend with 48 points through three games. Elijah Pearman was hot on his heels with 46 points total.

Lexington and Marietta nearly matched each other in scoring the first quarter, 9-8 with Lexington in the lead.

The Bulldogs added 14 and held Marietta to six, to hold a 23-14 halftime lead.

The second half saw Lexington outscore Marietta 18-17 in the third and 16-13 in the final quarter to pick up the eight point win.

Pearman singed the nets for 22 points while Dierking had 16. Gavrie Williams added seven.

Last Tuesday, Lexington lost a close game with Stratford 47-41.

The Bulldogs jumped out in front, scoring 19 in the first quarter to Lexington’s 12. But, the home Bulldogs turned up the defense and held Stratford to just five second quarter points. Lexington scored twelve to tie it up at 24-all going into halftime.

Lexington outscored Stratford 11-10 in the third, but Stratford outscored Lexington in the final stanza, 13-6, and that proved to be the difference.

Dierking (11) and Pearman (10) were Lexington’s leading scorers.
