A Lexington veteran will soon be honored for his military service with a trip to Washington, D.C. as part of the Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight program.

Max Hawkins, a United States Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War, has been selected to participate April 14 to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to those who served in our nation’s armed forces.

Hawkins served in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E-5) during his service in the Vietnam War era. During his time in the Marines, he served in both Military Infantry and Military Police roles, supporting operations and security during a critical period of the war.

Hawkins is one of 69 Oklahoma Veterans from communities across the state selected for this Honor Flight mission. The program provides veterans the opportunity to visit the memorials built in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring Oklahoma veterans by transporting them to Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veteran. Each flight costs approximately $130,000 and is funded entirely through donations and community support.

Community members are invited to attend the public events surrounding the April mission, including the Send-Off Ceremony on April 13 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa and the Welcome Home Celebration at Tulsa International Airport on April 14.
