Lexington will kick off the 2021 gridiron season on the road at Little Axe with kick off set for 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday).

Second year head coach Keith Bolles said the scrimmage at Marietta, “went well.”

“I thought we were better than the first scrimmage,” Bolles said. “We still obviously have some things to work on but some of our younger kids stepped up and look like they got better from week to week and that’s what we’re looking for,” Bolles said.

The coach singled out the efforts of Heath Winterton, Jimmy Northrup and Josh Scott in the scrimmage that also included Valliant.

“Winterton  had a really good game running the ball and on defense,” Bolles said. “I thought Jimmy Northrup did a really good job and Josh Scott had a couple of catches with some good runs afterwards.

“I’d say we are just trying to get ready for Thursday night at Little Axe,” he said.

The Indians did not play in Week 0 so this will be their season opener as well.

They will operate out of the spread on offense and run a stack defense.

“The key for us is to get better at what we do,” Bolles said. “That’s what we’ve been working on this week. We need to be confident in what we do and in ourselves.”
