The Lady ‘Dawgs are 2-0 so far and were looking to pick up win number three on Tuesday night when they hosted Stratford.
Last week, Lexington got a 52-37 win over Dickson. Senior Addison Lippel singed the nets for 24 points while freshman Dulce Rodriguez added ten. Lexie Torres had seven.
“Addison stepped up for us and had 24 points. She was big for us.
“Our defense stepped up too. We turned them over and scored a lot in transition,” head coach Jacobi Couch said.
“Dulce is starting to find her groove in the high school game. She’s getting out in transition and getting layups and and-ones. She’s making her free throws too.”
According to the coach, the Lady Bulldogs played three good quarters and toward the end their youth showed some.
“We turned it over some toward the end of the game and let them back into it,” Couch said.
He also mentioned Torres who helps drive the team’s energy.
“Lexie gives us lots of opportunities to score the ball. She tips passes and runs out on defense. She’s our energy girl.”
And, Emma Turnpaugh, though her stats aren’t eye-popping, is a solid player, according to Couch. She does all the little things and is always where she is supposed to be.
“This group has bought into being the underdogs and they want to keep proving people wrong. We want to keep playing well and come away with more wins,” Couch said.
Tuesday night Lexington hosted Stratford. Then, starting Thursday they are in the Wynnewood Invitational. The Lady ‘Dawgs play the tournament host Lady Savages at 10 a.m.
Boys
Another tough loss for the Bulldogs, as they drop their second game, a 65-38 loss to Dickson last Tuesday.
Ten Bulldogs scored in the loss, led by Elijah Pearman’s eight points. Cash Dierking added six and Colt Mixon and Cale Garver had five apiece.
Lexington hung tough through the first quarter, down 19-11. But, the offense was stymied in the second and third before outscoring the Comets 13-8 in the final stanza.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to be in Stratford on Tuesday and will be in the Wynnewood Invitational starting Thursday. They play Marietta at 2:30 p.m.
