Picnic in the Park, a fundraiser for Nate and Sadie Armstrong of Maysville, will be  held Saturday, April 24, in “The Grove,” the playground next to the football stadium, in Maysville.

The event will begin at 12 noon and will include live music, hamburger and hot dog baskets, inflatables, a silent auction, sno-cones, games, fellowship and FUNdraising.

The event is free with the exception of the sno-cones. Organizers suggest a $5 donation for the food baskets.

All proceeds will go directly to Nate and Sadie for expenses during his ongoing medical treatment.

Join us for this Sister Cities Chat, where residents of Clermont-Ferrand, France and Norman will be meeting up virtually to chat about everyday topics, practice a foreign language and make connections!

May 6 is the National Day of Prayer.

Purcell Pastor Justin Blankenship reports a group will be praying at noon that day at the Santa Fe Plaza.

Prayers will be offered by local ministers.

The public is invited to attend.

“Let’s Make a Butterfly Garden!,” a virtual program at the Purcell Public Library, will be held from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, April 25.

Hear from Okies for Monarchs on the benefits of butterfly gardens and how to plant your own. Seed packs will be provided to attendees.

Purcell Elementary and Purcell Intermediate Schools will participate in the Freedom Fun Run May 5, 6 and 7.

Classes will be running over three days to allow for social distancing.

The run will be taking the place of the annual Turkey Trot that is held in the fall and raises funds for the PTO.

This tasty cheeseburger macaroni is a great dish for a busy day meal.

Cheesy Corn & Pasta Soup with Ground Beef

6 oz. macaroni

1 lb.  ground beef

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped

1 medium red or green bell pepper (or a combination), chopped

1 can (10 3/4 ounces) condensed cheddar cheese soup

4 ounces (1 cup) shredded cheddar cheese

3/4 cup milk

1 envelope (1 ounce) taco seasoning mix

Kosher salt, to taste

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Cook macaroni in boiling salted water following package directions.

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef in the olive oil with the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook while stirring until ground beef is no longer pink. Drain grease.

Add the cheese soup, shredded cheese, milk, and taco seasoning mix. Taste and add salt and pepper, as needed.

Stir in the hot drained pasta.

Variations:

Add sour cream to the finished cheeseburger macaroni mixture or serve it with sour cream on the side.

Add minced jalapeño peppers to the ground beef mixture along with the onions and bell pepper.

Replace the cheddar cheese soup with a can of condensed Fiesta Nacho Cheese Soup.
