Helen Price, 84, of Purcell, passed away March 1, 2023 in Oklahoma City.

Rose Helen Shepherd was born on November 10, 1938 to Albert Doyle Shepherd and Jewell Rebecca Shepherd (Burgett) in Chester, Arkansas. Her family eventually made their way to the Oklahoma City area, which is where Helen met Don Price at a Dairy Queen in Midwest City. Don and Helen quickly hit it off and were married on December 1, 1956. They moved to Alaska in 1959 and made it their home for 12 years enjoying the beauty of God’s creation all around them.

In 1971 Helen and her family made their way back to Oklahoma, settling near Lake Texoma where they enjoyed life on the water. Eventually the family made their way to Purcell where Don built the lake house that they would call home for years to come.

Helen was a talented musician and singer. She traveled all over performing gospel and country classics with her neighbor Sheila Zaber. They sang in nursing homes and senior centers under the name “The Harvest Time Singers” and loved spreading the joy of music.

Helen truly had the traveling bug, she loved all trips, whether they were short, long, planned, or spur of the moment. You never knew where you might wind up when you jumped in the car with her, but she made every trip enjoyable. When Helen wasn’t on the road, she loved playing BINGO. She would never tell if she won or lost- she’d just say “you should’ve come.”

She had a caring heart that led her to work in the home health field. She worked in the Purcell area for several years and took great pride in the help she was able to give others. Helen loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, spending summers at the lake, and visiting the old Homestead in Alaska.

She was a woman of great faith and loved attending church over the years, most recently she called Payne Baptist Church home. Helen was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Don Price; her parents, Albert and Jewell Shepherd and her siblings, Janett Enos, Russell Shepherd, Billy Shepherd, Barbara Shepherd, Sue Stoliby, Lloyd Shepherd and Michael Shepherd.

She is survived by her siblings, Odis Shepherd, David Shepherd and Judy Carroll of Alma, Arkansas; her children, Vernon Price and Joe Price of Purcell and Jaynee Schones of Edmond; her grandchildren, Josh Dodson of Yukon, Al Price of Zionsville, Indiana, Shane Chadwell and Syndey Flowers and spouse, Jessey, of Norman; two great-grandchildren, Anna and Luna Flowers, and several nieces and nephews.

Helen and Don both were especially loved and cared for by her niece and guardian angel Betty Smith of Lexington. The family would like to extend a special thanks to close friend Carolyn Brown who provided indispensable help in their time of need while caring for Helen’s hip injury.

Private family services will be held at a later time.
