Governor Kevin Stitt has officially designated February as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, emphasizing the vital role of Oklahoma’s CareerTech system in preparing students for high-demand careers and strengthening the state’s workforce.

Oklahoma CareerTech has been a crucial bridge between education and industry for over a century, fostering economic growth and innovation.

Since 1971, Mid-America Technology Center (MATC) has been preparing students for success by equipping them with essential skills. As Superintendent Mike Eubank puts it, “Students at Mid-America gain skills to ‘earn more than grades’—they gain the knowledge needed to thrive in life.”

“Career and Technical Education Appreciation Month is a time to celebrate the life-changing opportunities CareerTech provides to students, adults, and businesses across Oklahoma,” said CareerTech State Director Brent Haken. “CTE equips learners with the skills they need to thrive in high-demand careers while fueling our state’s economy. This February, let’s recognize the impact of CTE and the resolute professionals who make it all possible.”

In the 2024 fiscal year, the Oklahoma CareerTech system served 520,733 enrollments, with more than 44 percent of Oklahoma high school students taking at least one CareerTech course.

These programs offer hands-on, industry-relevant education that connects students to meaningful career opportunities.

“As first a CTE educator and now a superintendent, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact CareerTech has on our students and communities,” said Superintendent Eubank.

“By helping students reach their career aspirations and equipping businesses with a highly skilled workforce, MATC plays a crucial role in fostering individual success and driving economic growth,” Eubank said.

Through strong collaborations with businesses and educational institutions, CareerTech expands career awareness, boosts educational achievement, and addresses Oklahoma’s workforce demands.

MATC exemplifies this mission by offering programs in high-demand fields such as nursing and welding, ensuring training aligns with industry needs to benefit both students and local businesses.

“Our programs are reaching more students and adult learners than ever before, providing them with the skills they need to thrive in high-demand industries,” Haken said.

“We’ve launched new and innovative training opportunities, ensuring our offerings remain aligned with the needs of employers and the future workforce. And we’ve secured additional resources to enhance facilities, invest in cutting-edge technology, and support our mission to grow Oklahoma’s economy,” he concluded.
