After a fight early February 14 at the McClain County Jail, inmate Michael Dustin Holsey, 22, required medical treatment at Purcell Municipal Hospital.
During the treatment, medical staff needed the handcuffs taken off Holsey.
That’s when he then fled on foot around 7 a.m., touching off a search by deputies around the hospital and a subsequent chase down I-35 to Pauls Valley.
Officials reported at 7:30 a.m. a burglary was reported to a residence in north Purcell. Purcell Police disptach soon received a call of a stolen 2020 Hyundai Ioniq in the same neighborhood.
Officers learned through surveillance video that Holsey changed clothing before stealing the Hyundai.
Law enforcement were notified of a fight along I-35 in Garvin County around 8:45 a.m.
When deputies arrived, they found the Hyundai abandoned and the driver and passenger of a Ford F-150 at the scene.  The driver stated a subject matching Holsey’s description forcibly took his pickup.
A few minutes later, the pickup was spotted at a convenience store just off I-35 in Pauls Valley.
Holsey was then taken into custody by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, McClain County Sheriff’s Office and Pauls Valley Police Department.
Holsey, who was returned to the McClain County Jail, faces a number of new charges that are pending.
The incident remains under investigation.
Units from the McClain County Sheriff’s Office, Purcell Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department, Pauls Valley Police Department, Garvin County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol were involved.
