Easter services at churches

The highlight of the Christian year is this week with the trial, conviction, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Those are three days that ushered in a new world of salvation for all who believe.

Across the area, churches will celebrate these holiest of days with a variety of services and activities.

At Trinity United Methodist Church they will have a Maundy Thursday dinner starting at 6 p.m. followed by a service at 6:30 p.m.

The following day on Good Friday they will have a 7 p.m. service. On Easter Sunday, the Easter Sunday service, featuring a Cantata, will begin at 10:30 a.m.

At Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Holy Week observance began on Palm Sunday with a procession with palms.

On Holy Thursday, Adoration after the 7 p.m. Mass will conclude at 10 p.m.

Also there will be collection of rice bowls.

Good Friday Mass begins at 7 p.m. which will include Veneration of the Cross.

Easter Vigil will be an English Mass Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

There will be one bilingual Mass at 9 a.m. on Easter Sunday followed by an Easter egg hunt sponsored the Religious Education Board after the Mass at 10 a.m.

The First Baptist Church in Wayne will observe Easter at their regular 11 a.m. service Sunday.

The First Presbyterian Church of Rosedale had Palm Sunday at 10:45 a.m. April 13. Easter Sunday’s worship service begins at 10:45 a.m.

Landmark Church, located at 1106 W. Grant, will have two Good Friday services at 5:30 and 7 p.m.

The services will be geared toward Good Friday.

They will also hold an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. - The hunt will be at the McClain County Expo Center 1715 Hardcastle Blvd.

The age divisions for the egg hunt are 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. They will have a service Saturday starting at 6 p.m. and have three services on Easter Sunday.

Service times on Easter are 8:15, 9:45 and 11:15 a.m.

Goldsby Church will hold its Easter Sunday service at the Washington High School Events Center Gymnasium. Coffee and donuts will be available at 10 a.m. with the service starting at 10:30 a.m.

Child care will be provided for children from birth through three-years-old.

Busy bags will be provided for the kids in the service.

Purcell’s First Baptist Church will hold a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. Easter Sunday’s service begins at 10:15 a.m.

Memorial Assembly of God at 7th and Monroe will hold regular Sunday hours but will offer cinnamon rolls from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Emmanuel Baptist Church will hold its Easter Service at 10 a.m.

Washington’s First Baptist Church will have an Eggtravaganza on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and hold Easter Services at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Lexington First Baptist Church will have Easter worship service is at 8:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. with Sunday School starting at 9:15 a.m.

Kiwanis Egg Hunt

The Heart of Oklahoma Kiwanis Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday at the Purcell Lake Weaver Pavilion, 1400 Chandler Road.

Each age group will have their own hunt and prizes. Age groups include 0-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures.

The hunt begins at 9:30 a.m. sharp.
