Purcell’s second and last pre-season scrimmage begins at 6 p.m. today (Thursday) at Harrah.
The Dragons, Harrah and Mount St. Marys will make it a three-way event.
Purcell Head Coach Aaron Dillard said he is “curious to see what St. Marys has.”
“Their head coach is former OU and NFL player J.D. Runnels and they have a lot of kids transferring in through the portal,” Dillard said.
“They are a 3A school which will be a good test for us,” he said. “Harrah is on the rise in 4A so it will be two tough tests. We’re looking forward to it.”
Former OSU player Josh Fields is the Offensive Coordinator for Crossings whom the Dragons scrimmaged at Conger Field along with CCS last Friday.
In their first scrimmage of the year Dillard and his staff saw some things that were good and some things not so good.
“Kaden Pliler played extremely well on both sides of the ball,” Dillard said of the senior.
The coach had words of praise for the play of Braylon Francis, Deaken Dobbins, Ethan Colburn, Easton Resendiz and Liam Cummings.
“Deaken stood out and Braylon Francis was consistently good all night long,” Dillard said. “Easton Resendiz is only a freshman but he played well at linebacker and Liam Cummings ran the ball well which we were glad to see.”
Dillard, who begins his third season at the helm of the Dragons, said his club didn’t start out great when the scrimmage began.
“But as the night went on we got better and better getting a stop defensively on Community Christian,” the coach said.
Likewise, Dillard said his offense had a good drive on Crossings as well.
“We just need to keep getting better and better,” he said. “That’s what we want out of the scrimmage Thursday.”
