Senior Jaxon Dill was lights out on the mound Monday night in Wayne’s 7-1 win over Stratford.

The righty allowed just one run on four hits and struck out 13 batters.

Dill was also 2-3 at the plate with three ribbies.

“Jaxon took the game over. He proved to be the best player on the field last night. He struggled some last week, but he got his confidence back and I’m sure he’ll continue to play like that the rest of the year,” said head coach Shane Collins.

Wayne finished the game with 10 hits and five RBIs.

The Bulldogs also were running wild on the bases with eight stolen bases, four alone from junior Ben Fisher.

Last week, Wayne dropped games with Konawa, 11-7, on Thursday and Southwest Covenant, 8-6, on Friday.

“We’ve been struggling; on a bit of a losing streak, but I’m hoping the win over Stratford will help our confidence,” Collins said.

Wayne had eight hits in Friday’s loss, including two from senior Ty Kemp. Fisher, Dill, Langstyn McClendon, Lane Canfield, Lane Lewis and Brody Kemp each had one hit.

“We hit the ball well, but just right at them. Southwest Covenant hit it in the gaps.

“We had our chances to win. We had runners in scoring position with senior Duke Moore at bat but couldn’t get the job done.

“We left a lot of runners on base in the games with Southwest Coventant and Konawa.”

The Bulldogs were scheduled to be in Maysville on Tuesday and be a co-host of the I-35 Classic starting Thursday.

They will play the winner of Alex and Cyril at 2 p.m.
