A reported EF2 tornado ripped through parts of Wayne early Tuesday morning, destroying at least one house and knocking out power to the entire town.

The twister touched down around 5:30 a.m. just east of the main body of Wayne when a line of thunderstorms bruised their way through Central Oklahoma.

The destructive winds demolished the home of Tim and Missi Lynn at 15300 Nicholas Drive.

They had taken shelter along with their two children in the basement of their home.

Missi was on the phone with her sister, Justina Reaves, when the tornado struck their house.

Justina and Jared Reaves live almost right next door to the south. They did not report any damage.

Also, a house right next door to the Lynn residence did not sustain any damage at all.

At least three other structures in the area were damaged and roofs across a large portion of town had shingle damage, according to McClain County Sheriff Landy Offolter.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries reported,” Offolter said.

The American Red Cross set up for business operations at the First Baptist Church. Offolter said a generator was brought in so they could operate since there was no electricity in town.

Power was restored between 6:40-7:40 p.m. Tuesday depending on what part of town your home is located.

The storm dumped 1.2” of rain in Purcell. That coupled with the .8” that fell December 7 hikes the yearly total in Purcell to 38.32”. Dibble got 2”.

Comparatively, Oklahoma City has received 25.69”. The normal for this time of year is 36.52”.
