It was a big night Monday at the Community Room of the Purcell Police Service Building with the council hiring a new treasurer and swearing in a new council person.
The city hired Wynn Tyson-Kramer, a current Norman resident and finance director with the State of Oklahoma, to replace Victor Lohn as the city treasurer.
He will begin his tenure August 18.
Mayor Graham Fishburn swore in new council person Tara Phillips to take the place of Joseph Franco, who recently resigned.
Phillips is president of the Purcell Softball Association.
During the Monday meeting, the council approved the purchase of a backhoe for the street department.
The city remains in negotiations with the fire department on the agreement between them and the city.
The council was informed that Facebook only keeps recordings for 30 days so the council meetings are being stored on YouTube.
The city is currently working with several people on contract proposals for development of the old hospital property.
Work also continues with aerial viewing of the steps on Red Hill.
Engineers are using the aerial views to try to mitigate the situation with runoff, which is causing the erosion. The goal is to prevent future damage.
During the Purcell Public Works Authority the board was informed that landscaping on Main Street has begun.
All water wells are up and running with the exception of No. 11. The council approved $38,700 last month for the last repairs on that well. Once it is repaired all 16 wells will be in operation.
