Posted

Charlotte Ann (Broyles) Cannon of Cole, Oklahoma, passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Saturday, March 6, 2021 after fighting colon and liver cancer for 30 months.

Charlotte was born to Calvin Dale and Betty Jo Broyles on February 23, 1954 in Prague, Oklahoma.,During her childhood the family moved around the state of Oklahoma, as her father Calvin worked in the oil field.,The family settled for a time in Purcell, Oklahoma, where Charlotte graduated high school in 1972.

Charlotte held a variety of positions during her work career. She fondly shared memories of working at Sherri Classics, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry, Washington Public Schools, Small Talk Daycare and Hobby Lobby. Charlotte was fortunate to retire from Hobby Lobby in 2016.

Charlotte enjoyed many things in life, but her proudest accomplishments were her two children, a son, Nicholas J. Cannon, and a daughter, Jacqueline Bridget (Cannon) Gilliam. Anyone who knew Charlotte, knew they could ask about her children, and she would beam with pride to provide an update on them.

Charlotte was a strong, hard working woman who instilled the importance of education, independence and hard work in both of her children. Nick and Bridget both attended the University of Oklahoma and both received undergraduate and graduate degrees in their respective areas of study. As a result of her children’s educational achievements, Charlotte was a big fan of the University of Oklahoma.

Prior to her diagnosis of cancer, Charlotte loved spending time with her two grandchildren, Claire and Ace Cannon.  She loved making arts and crafts with Claire and Ace and attending their events whenever she could.  When not talking about her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments, Charlotte enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and sewing items for those she loved, putting puzzles together, visiting the beach, collecting items of mermaids, light houses and monkeys, and reading books and her Bible.

Charlotte never missed an episode of KFOR news and enjoyed watching programming on NBC and Hallmark. Charlotte loved living in the country on her property in Cole, Oklahoma, and sharing this with her son and grandchildren.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Dale and Betty Jo Broyles; her daughter, Crystal Lynette Cannon, and granddogs Phoebe and Freckles.

Charlotte is survived by her son, Nick and grandchildren Claire and Ace Cannon of Cole, Oklahoma; her daughter, Bridget and husband Dr. Jay Gilliam of Springfield, Illinois. She is survived by her granddogs Ruby Sue, Ashley, Lucy and Sophie, who is a dog that could do no wrong in Charlotte’s eyes. She is also survived by brothers, Lynn Broyles and his wife, Doris, of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and David Broyles and his wife, Nancy, of El Reno, Oklahoma. Charlotte is survived by nephews, Jeremiah Broyles and wife, Tiffany, of Tom Bean, Texas, and Alexander, Andrew and Aaron Broyles of El Reno, Oklahoma, and a niece, Stephanie Smith and husband, Donnie, of Yukon, Oklahoma. Charlotte is survived by many grandnephews and grandnieces. Charlotte is also survived by her best friends, Ann and Oliver Goodin of Washington, Oklahoma, and their son, Derek, of Portland, Oregon.

In honor of Charlotte’s wishes, cremation will be provided by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell, Oklahoma. Additionally, there will be no service at this time and a private memorial will be held in the future.
