Before Spring Break, the Wayne Lady Bulldogs split their games – an 8-5 loss to Madill last Tuesday and a 10-2 win over Wewoka on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs amassed 19 hits and 10 RBIs in the 10-2 win, led by freshman Maddie Moreno’s two hits and five ribbies. Sophomore Taelyn Ringwald, in the lead off spot, had a 4-4 day at the plate.
Audra Watts and Ava Stottlemyre had three hits apiece while Moreno, Alyssa Hobson, Addison Clagg and Scarlett Selzer each had two.
Stottlemyre was in the circle for the win. She allowed two runs (both earned) on seven hits. She walked one batter and fanned four.
Wayne had scored three runs before Wewoka got on the board with one run in the third inning. But, Wayne put up five more runs in the fourth and that’s when they really ran away with the game.
Wewoka would add one more run in the fifth, but the Lady Bulldogs had command of the game by then.
Earlier in the week, Wayne dropped a close game with Madill, 8-5.
Both teams were scoreless through three innings. But, Madill pushed four runs across in the fourth inning. Wayne answered, but with just two runs of their own.
Madill added another run in the fifth while Wayne continued to chip away with two more runs, making the score 5-4.
Madill would add two more in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Wayne got one back in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t get much more going.
The Lady Bulldogs collected 11 hits in the loss, but it was the six errors that plagued them.
Ringwald and Whitaker led their team with three hits apiece while Stottlemyre had two.
Stottlemyre took the loss in the circle. She pitched all seven innings allowing eight runs (two earned) on 13 hits.
The Lady Bulldogs are off for Spring Break but have a busy week back. They are scheduled to be in Stratford starting Monday, March 24 for the RWB Conference Tournament. Wayne will play Konawa at 3:20 on Monday.
Thursday the Lady Bulldogs will be in Fort Sill for their festival.
They will be back home on Friday hosting their own festival.
