Strut your stuff on December 8

Posted

The annual holiday parade returns to downtown Purcell on December 8.

Theme of this year’s parade is “Anything Christmas!”

According to Elisabeth Baker, the keeper of all things Christmas parade, there were “around 30” parade entries in hand as of Monday.

Entries will continue to be accepted through Tuesday.

To enter, email Baker at Elisabeth@theheartofok.com and request a parade form. Or simply call the Heart of Oklahoma Chamber office at 405-527-3093.

Categories for parade participants will be announced closer to the parade date, Baker said.

Bragging rights will be up for grabs during the event. Judges will select a winner in each category.

The biggest highlight of this year’s parade will be a personal appearance by Santa Claus.

Mr. Yeti’s will be on site to warm participants and spectators alike with hot chocolate and cider.

The Lexington Show Choir will perform, Baker said. She is working on confirming other groups for live music that will put everyone in earshot in a Christmas state of mind.

Following the parade, the McClain County Museum will host a self-guided Christmas History Walking Tour of Main Street.

In addition, the museum is hanging historical posters in the windows of Main Street businesses.

Businesses along the thoroughfare are also encouraged to decorate their windows with Christmas lights and other seasonal items.
