Air raid warning for Warriors

High flying Frederick Bombers swoop in Friday night

Posted

Fresh off their open week last Friday, Washington’s No. 1 ranked Warriors will host the Frederick Bombers Friday at 7 p.m. at Reed Field.

Frederick will come into Washington 2-1 with wins over City View, TX and Hobart. Their lone loss was in Week 0 a close 8-6 verdict with Wellington, TX.

Frederick will base defensively out of a four-man front.

“They are very multiple but they don’t move their front six around,” head coach Brad Beller told The Purcell Register this week.

“They allow their big, strong defensive linemen and their linebackers to play fast. All of their adjustments come in the secondary.

“They are very, very athletic as a team and are thick and strong where they need to be thick and strong and have fast kids where they need to be fast,” Beller said. “They are a very good and very balanced team.”

When the Bombers are on offense you can shake up a can of formations and toss them out all over the field.

“They run anything from a diamond formation to a pro I all the way to empty,” Beller said. “All of those formations use the same personnel which makes it hard to get aligned. They try to spread you out.”

The Bomber quarterback is a four-year starter who has a big arm, Beller reports.

Frederick’s top receiver is 6’5” and 220 pounds and is very talented.

“They try to move him around. Overall, he’s a real solid receiver,” the coach said.

Key to a Warrior victory will be getting lined up properly.

“When we are on defense we need to make sure to get aligned correctly and then run to the football once we recognize the play. We need to get them on the ground before their athletes get rolling,” Beller said.

“It’s also very crucial to win the line of scrimmage,” he confirmed. “Our front five offensive linemen have to control their four defensive linemen.

Washington made the most out of its week off last week healing some of their very banged up gridders.

“We got most of the guys back this week but still have two or three who will be out for a few weeks,” Beller said.

“We are starting to heal up and get guys back to practicing this week,” he confirmed.
