5 questions with outgoing year 2022

Posted

Editor’s note: Answering  The Purcell Register’s five questions this week is the outgoing year 2022.

Q: How many of your goals did you accomplish in your time?

A: I never enumerated my goals. That might have been a mistake on my part. I offered the world a blank slate on which to chart events.

Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced on January 1??

A: Crime, war, natural and man-made disasters, hate, violence, intolerance, COVID ... those were all big challenges in my book. I can’t single out just one and say it was the biggest.

Q: What advice do you have for the incoming year 2023?

A: Never take yourself too seriously. Use all 365 days to make the world a better place. Roll with the punches.

Q: What is the one thing you won’t miss as you pass into history?

A: Gun violence and mass shootings. How many mass shootings do you think there were from January 1 through November 27? I’ll tell you – 704! The death toll was 735 and nearly 2,800 people were injured. Every one of those numbers breaks my heart. They should break the hearts of everyone in this country. That they don’t...I have no words.

Q: What will you do in retirement?

A: Old years are like old soldiers. They never die; they just fade away. I would like to find someone with a passion for truth to write my memoirs. Maybe what I experienced will help future years.
