Five Purcell Dragon Cheerleaders have qualified to participate in the legendary Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City as All-Star cheerleaders.
Seniors Mili Antonio, Kate Ginn and Paisley Knowles, junior Ellie Reed and freshman Whitney Bruehl were selected as J&C All-Stars, making them eligible to participate in the famous parade in November.
They earned the distinction at the J&C Cheer Camp at Norman.
Seniors Jaci Deaton and Ginn were selected for Army All-American Bowl participation, along with allowing them to cheer at the high school All-American game.
Additionally, Ginn and Deaton were invited to return next year as staff members for the J&C Cheer Camp at the NCED Conference Center and Hotel on SH 9 in Norman.
Ginn was awarded Top Gun Senior for her motions and Bruehl was a freshman finalist.
Knowles was selected from all the cheerleaders at the camp as the recipient of the Leadership Award.
“Overall a fun-filled week with a positive impact and outlook for a good season,” cheer coach Grant Gish said.
“In addition to supporting school athletics and fostering school spirit, PHS Cheer will compete in game day Regionals and hope to make it to State later this year.
“The team was able to work on a new cheer, dance and stunts, while also working on team bonding,” Gish continued.
“They earned the dynamite spirit-stick each evening, allowing them the honor of bringing it home from camp.
“PHS Cheer also brought home the Champion’s Cup,” the coach concluded.
