Monday night’s game with Alex was another win for the Wayne Lady Bulldogs. They beat the Lady Longhorns 13-5 and moved their record to 10-4.
They were scheduled to host ECP on Tuesday and be in OKC for the Santa Fe South festival on Thursday.
Alex
The Lady Bulldogs scored 13 runs on 23 hits on Monday in their 13-5 win over Alex.
With the game tied 2-2 after one inning, Wayne broke it open scoring five runs in both the third and fourth innings. They added one insurance run in the sixth.
“It was a good game – the girls came out hitting,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.
“We didn’t have Addison for the Alex game, and Liz (Bunner) came off the bench and did well. I also put Karsen in as extra hitter and she did great in the two hole,” Herrin said.
Jordynn Debaets was 3-3 with six RBIs to lead her team. She homered in the fourth to score three runs. She also had doubles in the first and third innings.
Taelyn Ringwald, Karsen Adams, Audra Watts, and Cylie Jones all had three hits in the win.
Ava Stottlemyre was in the circle for the win. She allowed two earned runs on 11 hits.
Ninnekah
Last Friday, Wayne picked up a 17-2 win over Ninnekah. They finished with 19 hits, including three each from Lily Whitaker and Faith Brazell. Ringwald, Debaets, Stottlemyre, Alyssa Hobson and Brysten Shephard had two apiece.
Hobson also had four RBIs.
Four Lady Bulldogs had inside-the-park home runs in the win – Hobson, Shephard, Debaets and Addison Keeler.
“We came out a little flat, but got the bats going as the game went on,” Herrin said.
Stottlemyre was in the circle for the win. She allowed one run on four hits.
Districts
Assignments for Districts have been released. Wayne will host Stratford and Savanna. Games are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 17.
“It will be a tough districts; both teams are good. But, I know that if we play our game and hit like we can, we can win. We have to play solid defense and not press – no extra throws, no unneccesary errors,” Herrin said.
As the seaon winds down Herrin said she’s proud of this team.
“They make the routine plays, they chip away. We lost some solid, key players from last year’s team and I’m proud of the way we have played this year.
“This is a good group of kids. I love being out there with them.”
