Warriors sweep Districts

Open Regional tournament at home against Chisholm

Posted

The Washington Warriors defeated Blanchard in back-to-back games last Wednesday to claim the District championship.

They won 12-4 in the first game.

Emjay Lucas and Tinley Lucas both homered in the game.

Emjay Lucas was 4-4 with five RBIs.

Abby Wood went 3-5.

The Warriors jumped out early to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and made it 8-0 after the second inning.

Blanchard put up a few meaningless runs late before Washington scored their final three in the bottom of the sixth.

“We strung hits together pretty well,” said Washington head coach Tylor Lampkin.

In the second game, a 16-0 shutout, the Warriors tightened the screws defensively and only allowed three Blanchard hits.

“The second game we played way better defense,” Lampkin said. “We made mistakes defensively in that first game. We need to clean those up going forward and will work on it the next few days.”

Emjay Lucas was an animal at the plate in the tournament and went 1-2 with a homer and three ribbies in the second game.

“Emjay only got out once in the two games and was batting .883 with two homers,” Lampkin said. “Tinley Lucas is also doing a good job.”

Maggie Place was 2-2 with a home run and knocked in five runs.

Olivia Palumbo was 1-2 with a triple.

Moore

The Warriors defeated Moore 18-8 Monday amid senior night festivities.

Wood was 2-2 with two walks. She also scored twice.

“Abby Wood got her swing back and looked like the old Abby that game,” Lampkin said.

Skylar Wells homered twice and had four RBIs in the game.

“Skylar has been hot lately and has protected other batters around her,” Lampkin said.

The Warriors also had homers by Tinley Lucas, Palumbo and Place.

Ellie Loveless had a double and a triple.

“Moore is a good, quality  team and we always get their best,” Lampkin said. “To get (the results) we got was great.”

Regionals

Washington is scheduled to host the Regional tournament today (Thursday).

Oklahoma weather in the spring will be the deciding factor if the games are played as scheduled or not.

“If it rains we will play on the turf at Tuttle High School on Friday,” Lampkin said.

Washington is set to open with Chisholm (13-11).

“They are a scrappy team with a decent record,” Lampkin said. “They hit the ball pretty well, especially in the 1-4 spots.”

Overall the coach feels it will be a competitive field.

“Plainview and Cache on the other side of the bracket are good also,” he said. “They both have pop in the lineup and play quality defense.”

Washington is 35-3.
