Warriors playing their best baseball of the season

Eight-game win streak

Washington head baseball coach Jeff Kulbeth is well pleased with the baseball his team is playing right now.

“It was the best week we’ve put together this season, especially with the quality opponents we’ve seen,” he said.

The Warriors defeated Comanche (three times), Holland Hall, Oklahoma Christian School and Community Christian School (twice).

The Warriors are finding success at the plate up and down the lineup.

“It’s been 1-9 in the lineup getting hits,” Kulbeth said. “Some guys at the top of the lineup may not get a hit but the guys in the bottom do or vice versa.”

Freshman Nate Roberts came up big in the Warriors’ 4-3 win over OCS in the Bo Duren Invitational Tournament.

“Nate Roberts pitched it really well, especially when you think about who the competition was,” Kulbeth said. “That game had the feel of a Regional finals game.”

Roberts struck out six batters in four innings while only giving up four hits against a talented OCS team.

Roberts has been a steady option on the mound for the Warriors in tournament play.

“Mayson Thomas, Nate Roberts and Tristin Babbitt have shown growth on the mound this season,” Kulbeth said of the underclassmen. “Marlon Moore and Canon Stewart have been on the mound a lot in our District games.”

Babbitt went five innings during Washington’s 7-2 win over Comanche. He struck out eight Indians in the process.

In the 13-2 win over Comanche, Cam Bates went 3-4 from the plate.

Dax McCaskill and Kane Springer each had three RBIs in the game.

As a team, the Warriors put up 15 hits.

“We’re swinging it well. The whole lineup is,” Kulbeth said.

Washington is in the thick of things for the District title.

The Warriors are 8-0 in District and Lindsay is 6-1, with the Leopards’ loss coming against Davis.

The Warriors and Leopards are scheduled to play Monday and Tuesday.

“They will be two big games Monday and Tuesday,” Kulbeth confirmed.

Senior night will be tonight (Thursday) night when the Warriors take on Marietta.

Washington is 18-7 this season.
